PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences

Goals

The overall objective of the PhD Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences at FFULisboa is to reflect research and innovation activities into tangible direct benefits for society, which include advanced qualification in the areas of medicines and its interaction with health, both in health promotion and in prevention of disease.

The PhD Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences at FFULisboa focuses on translational research leading to the discovery of therapeutic targets and drug design, as well as pre-clinical development and drug safety assessment. This is a cycle of interdisciplinary studies and involving institutional and international cooperation promoted by a highly qualified faculty.

Study plan

The PhD Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences has a duration of 4 years, divided into 8 semesters, with a total of 240 ECTS.

The 1st year corresponds to the “PhD Course,” a curricular component that takes place in the 1st and 2nd semesters and includes the following course units:

  • PhD Seminar I: comprises 2 Advanced Training Courses, each with 6 ECTS, and 2 laboratory rotations, each with 6 ECTS;
  • Research Methodology Seminar I: comprises the start of the research project, totalling 6 ECTS;
  • PhD Seminar II: comprises 2 Advanced Training Courses, each with 6 ECTS, and 2 laboratory rotations, each with 6 ECTS;
  • Research Methodology Seminar II: It includes a conference on the subject, for a total of 2 ECTS, and the defense of the Advanced Training Course, for a total of 4 ECTS.

From the 3rd semester to the 8th semester (inclusive), students focus on the development of their PhD Thesis.

Scholarship from the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT)

The call for PhD research grants from the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) is held annually. It is up to the candidates to apply to this institution together with their supervisors.

After acceptance and enrolment on the FFUL PhD Programme in Pharmacy, the Academic Services will issue any documents required for the award of the grants.

 

To request an FCT Scholarship Renewal Declaration, follow the steps below:

  1. Access the FénixEdu Portal with your credentials.
  2. In your Personal Area, select the Requests option.
  3. Within Requirements, choose the corresponding option to request the Scholarship Renewal Declaration.
