Goals

The overall objective of the PhD Degree in Pharmacy at FFULisboa is to reflect research and innovation activities into tangible direct benefits for society, which include advanced qualification in the areas of medicines and its interaction with health, both in health promotion and in prevention of disease.

The PhD Degree in Pharmacy at FFULisboa focuses on translational research leading to the discovery of therapeutic targets and drug design, as well as pre-clinical development and drug safety assessment. This is a cycle of interdisciplinary studies and involving institutional and international cooperation promoted by a highly qualified faculty.

Summary version

The curricular component (1st year) of the PhD course in Pharmacy is divided into the following strands:

  • PhD Seminar I: comprises 2 advanced courses with 22.5 teaching hours each, totalling 12 ECTS and laboratory rotations with 30 hours of tutorial supervision, totalling 12 ECTS;
  • Research Methodology Seminar I: comprises the start of the research project, totalling 6 ECTS;
  • PhD Seminar II: comprises 2 advanced courses with 22.5 teaching hours each, totalling 12 ECTS and laboratory rotations with 30 hours of tutorial guidance, totalling 12 ECTS;
  • Research Methodology Seminar II: comprises a conference on the thesis topic, totalling 2 ECTS and a presentation and discussion of the thesis plan, totalling 4 ECTS.
