China-Portugal International Joint Laboratory in Herbal Medicines was officially inaugurated on October 18, 2024 at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Universidade de Lisboa, a project born from the partnership between the FFUL and the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Jiangxi.

This research laboratory integrates the knowledge of both institutions in herbal medicines and in particular of their quality, safety, efficacy and pharmaceutical development, meeting European and international regulatory frameworks, and promoting the scientific study of Portuguese medicinal plants and traditional herbal Chinese medicines.

The laboratory’s activities also include offering of educational programs as postgraduate level, developed in partnership, allowing the training and updating of national and international students’ knowledge in herbal medicines, as well as participating and conducting symposiums and conferences related to herbal medicines to this subject.

The establishment of the China-Portugal International Joint Laboratory in Herbal Medicines is understood as a breakthrough in international scientific collaboration, promoting the exchange of knowledge and ensuring that the therapeutic potential of the medicinal plants that will be the subject of study is confirmed, with the consequent health benefit at a global level, while strengthening academic ties.

Sustainability and innovation are priority areas in developing the activities to be carried out by the team, that enable the creation of sustainable health solutions.
