The Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon (FFUL), in collaboration with the Research Institute for Medicines (iMed.ULisboa), is organizing the symposium “Phage Therapy: Development and Clinical Application”, an event dedicated to discussing this innovative approach to treating antibiotic-resistant infections.
The symposium aims to inform, clarify, and debate the potential of phage therapy at a time when Portugal has become the second country in the world, alongside Belgium, to regulate the use of magistral preparations of bacteriophages for treating bacterial infections in hospital settings. This decision follows the publication of a guideline by INFARMED (portuguese medicines regulator), which authorizes the application of these specific viruses to combat resistant bacteria.
The event will feature leading experts in the field, who will address the challenges and opportunities of phage therapy, from its development to clinical implementation.
Registration is free but mandatory and can be completed by filling out this form. For more information, please contact mpimentel@ff.ulisboa.pt.
