Tiago Rodrigues’ project, titled “Application of AI/ML to Optimize the Formation of TB Drug Intermediates,” has received a grant from The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, with a total funding of USD 499,958.00.

This project aims to optimize the synthesis of two tuberculosis drugs (sutezolid and pretomanid) by employing an artificial intelligence algorithm for active learning, which will be integrated with flow-based chemical synthesis methods. The project officially commenced on October 23 and will run until the end of 2025.

Tiago Rodrigues is a Professor and Researcher at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon, specializing in chemistry. He was awarded with the Vicente de Seabra Medal in 2023 and has been involved in work related to artificial intelligence and machine learning.
