To present the main concepts of thermodynamics and transfer phenomena, from the perspective of mechanisms, phenomena, main results and equations. Design and dimensioning of heat and mass transfer equipments.

Syllabus

Applied Thermodynamics. Introduction: Principles, concepts and quantities. Thermodynamic approach. Gases, liquids and solids. Phase balance in pure components. Chemical balance. Phase balance in binary mixtures. Fluid Mechanics (macroscopic): Equations and basic principles. Eq. Bernoulli and pressure drop in pipes. Flow around objects. Flow regimes. Main dimensionless numbers. Transport properties (solids and liquids). Conduction and convection. Heat Transport. Mass Transportation. Transport properties (solids and liquids). Mass Transport (convective): Concentration profiles in steady-state flows. Design and dimensioning of heat and mass transfer equipments.
