Rogério Gaspar will assume in January 2021 the position of Director of the Regulation and Prequalification (RPQ) Department of the World Health Organization (WHO), in Geneva. One of the missions include the assessment of medicines and vaccines for COVID-19 for developing countries. Additionally the RPQ Department is the WHO “backbone” for matters related to medicines regulation and access within the framework of the United Nations (UN) system.

Rogério Gaspar will replace the former Director Emer Cooke (Irish) at WHO, who has recently taken the position of Executive Director of the European Medicines Agency (EMA), in Amsterdam.

Rogério Gaspar is Full Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Universidade de Lisboa (FFUL) and has been until now the President of the FFUL School Council. He was previously Vice-President of INFARMED and a member of the Board of Directors of EMA, having supervised and participated in different projects in this area in Americas, Africa, Southeast Asia and in several EU / EEA countries. Between 2013 and 2017 he integrated the Rectoral Team of the Universidade de Lisboa and supervised the areas of Research & Development, Entrepreneurship and Knowledge Transfer at the Universidade de Lisboa. Until now, he served as Vice-President of the European Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences (EUFEPS), as Coordinator of the European Science for Health (EurSci4Health) and as President of the Portuguese Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPCF).
