She has a PhD in Biology at the University of Lisbon. The plant biodiversity of Portuguese and African flora, with emphasis on medicinal, aromatic and invasive plants has motivated her multidisciplinary approach, combining different microscopy techniques with histochemistry and phytochemistry, leading to the characterization of plant micro-morphoanatomy, secretory structures, secondary metabolites and their in vitro biological activities, in order to provide a rational use of plants where their safety, quality and effectiveness are verified. She has over 100 scientific works, including 3 books, 22 book chapters and 50 papers published in peer-reviewed international journals.
