Goals
The advanced course will arm attendees with new knowledge in fragment based drug design, including methodologies and strategies commonly employed in this space and that may be prospectively applied in their research projects. It will cover theoretical foundations, and include hands-on sessions in biophysical methods and modelling routines.

The course will follow a top down methodology, starting on the first day with examples of approved drugs developed under a FBDD strategy. The course implements active learning and team based learning strategies for the preparation of project outlines.
Acquired competences will include:
- Theoretical and practical knowledge on several biophysical methods that are relevant in FBDD
- Knowledge of medicinal chemistry strategies for drug development
- Development of critical thinking
- Development of scientific writing
- Development of oral communication of science
Evaluation will be based on two components:
1) Oral presentation and discussion of a project proposal (groups of 2-3 students) in the last day of the course (50%)
2) Written proposal focusing on the same oral presentation, with a maximum of 10000 characters with spaces (deadline: 10 working days after the course terminus; 50%)

Minimum of MSc degree.

Places will be filled in order of registration. .

Registration fee:
- 150€ for general student enrollment.
Note: FFUL doctoral students who wish to take the course as part of their 1st year compulsory component are exempt from paying the registration fee.
- School Insurance: 2.10
By application of paragraph e) of point 2 of Article 42 of the University of Lisbon’s Statutes, and taking into account the terms for the attribution of PRR funding under the “Impulso Adultos” program, the Organic Unit responsible for the coordination of each course may award academic performance prizes.
