Advanced Course on Herbal Medicines

Course Objectives

The Advanced Course on Herbal Medicines includes an introduction to the quality, safety, mode of action as well as regulatory and pharmaceutical development aspects of medicinal plant-based medicines in accordance with the European vision and rules.

This course takes place in partnership with the Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, under the terms of an institutional collaboration protocol in force, which aims to develop training actions and research projects in partnership with FFUL, in the field of herbal medicines.

This course is particularly aimed at master’s and doctoral students from the Jiangxi University of Traditional Medicine.

The course will be taught entirely in English.

Target audience

This course is especially aimed at master’s and doctoral students at Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, but is also open to undergraduates with an interest in the subject.

Attendance at the course requires a good command of the English language.

Course Struture

This course will take place between 06 January and 17 January 2025, in person at FFUL.

The course will run from Monday to Friday for a fortnight, between 09:00 and 18:00

The training hours are distributed as follows:

  • Theoretical training hours: 20 hours
  • Practical training hours: 5 hours
  • Laboratory training hours: 15h
  • Tutorial hours: 40 hours

The course has a total of 80 hours of training, equivalent to a total of 3 ECTS.

Continuous formative assessment and summative assessment in the form of a final project presentation.

Access Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related areas, obtained at national or international level.

Selection and seriation criteria:

The selection of students from the Jiangxi University of Traditional Medicine will be the responsibility of that institution, with 10 places reserved for this purpose.

The other candidates will be selected by the course coordinators on the basis of their academic qualifications and other elements of their curriculum vitae, with oral and written proficiency in English being a prerequisite.

  • Minimum number of trainees for operation: 10
  • Maximum number of trainees for operation: 16

Required Documents for Application (new students): Document proving possession of degree and Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Required Documents for Application(for students that participated  in the course International Pharmaceutical Market Acess): Document proving possession of a bachelor’s degree, Curriculum Vitae (CV) and/or the Certificate of the International Pharmaceutical Market Access course.

Documents proving candidates’ qualifications must be issued by the competent authority in the country where the qualifications were obtained and, when issued by foreign institutions, they must be legalised by a Portuguese consular agent or by the Hague Apostille, these legalisations being carried out in the country of origin of the documents. Whenever they are not issued in Portuguese, English or Spanish, they must be translated into one of these languages.

Note: the course has as an essential requirement of English language proficiency and of online access, with camera and sound, in a reserved environment.
