The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) published a new version of the 2020’s publication “Medicines use review: A toolkit for pharmacists”.

This revised publication, edited by specialists in the pharmacy field, among them Filipa Alves da Costa, Assistant Professor at Faculty of Pharmacy of Universidade de Lisboa, aims to highlight the pharmacist role in patient’s therapeutics, applying «Medication Review — a service where the healthcare team assesses a patient’s current medicines to optimise clinical, humanistic and economic factors — and MUR, where the emphasis is in the word “use”, and where pharmacists interact directly with patients to improve their medicines use, considering their preferences and, ultimately, optimising adherence to treatments».

This toolkit gives examples on how medication review is applied around the world and gives guidance for implementing effective medication review services, including advice on addressing challenges in low-resource settings.

FIP is an international organisation present in more than 146 countries that represents pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences and pharmaceutical education.
