The PhD student, together with the supervisors and the Thesis Committee, which has a mentoring role, identifies the best career development plan within the field of Pharmacy and its specialties. This includes core and complementary training, research, seminars, and mobility opportunities. The training activities are diverse and include attending courses, laboratory rotations, and seminars, held at FFULisboa or other ULisboa units, as well as outside ULisboa, in other universities or companies.
Advanced courses focus on interdisciplinary and translational research in drug discovery and development. On the other hand, laboratory rotations enhance specific skills in research methodologies. Seminars foster oral and written communication among peers. Additionally, complementary training in soft skills is encouraged.
The courses and laboratory rotations include training and complementary self-study, sometimes through case studies from both academia and industry, in areas such as Biopharmaceuticals and Advanced Therapies; Biomarkers and Assay Development; Medicinal Chemistry; Advanced Drug Delivery; Non-Clinical Efficacy and Safety; Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacovigilance; Drug Regulation and Assessment; and Entrepreneurship in Innovative Therapies. The modular structure of the PhD program allows students to follow a specific subset of courses and laboratory rotations.
Mobility is also encouraged through participation in complementary courses covering transversal skills such as technical writing and communication, leadership, time and resource management, partnerships and teamwork, scientific ethics, intellectual property, entrepreneurship, and knowledge transfer.
